Friends, I am having a conundrum. To wash my hair, or not to wash my hair?
I’ve been reading all over the blogosphere lately that so many beautiful, stylish women rarely wash their hair (I’m talking six weeks of unwashing here, people). “Say what?” Doesn’t it get greasy, ratty, and just overall… not pretty?
I know that not washing is healthier for your hair and scalp, and that shampoos can dry you out and cause breakage and other unpleasantries. Now I can go every other day, but I don’t know… Twice a week just seems… tough.
Hmm… okay. Let me think about this. If I’m going to have the healthiest mane on the block, what are my alternatives?
First up, dry shampoo (my favorite is the retro Pssst!). Not going to lie… I kind of love this stuff. It removes buildup and creates tons of volume. It’s also sooo helpful for creating better hairstyles, rather than when your hair is super clean and shiny… which brings me to my next solution…
The sock bun (see above). What better way to disguise unwashed hair than hiding it in a big sock bun? This is my hairstyle of choice during the work week when I don’t have a ton of time to blow dry.
Last but not least, one of the best ways to extend your un-’poo’d hair is salt spray. By far the best I’ve ever used for beachgirl waves is Bumble&Bumble Surf Spray. It texturizes, creates volume and turns your dirty hair into mermaid-like locks. Check out a few of my other favorite hair looks from the un-washed category below.
